The Democracy of Now (For the Heroes of Hurricane Harvey)

Stand on this mound of stone
and look around
Our energy is fire
and water is everywhere

This delicate birth
This cold season
Our prayer is a whisper
To the anatomy of love

We shall crave the truth
with no fear leading
to awakening

We are
as in everything
a part of you

This summer of the broken heart
is just a single moment
on a winding road

Hey Hey now hear now
Hey Hey now hear now
Let us embrace the rain
to wash us of our sins

As we head to bed to weep
and awake again
to see the morning comes again
since there is no end
only now

Hey Hey now hear now
Hey Hey now hear now
It is no matter
We can float like roses
out into the sea

We can let float
in the currents
of our mutual history
as the eternal memory
of liberty lost at sea

Hey Hey now hear now
Hey Hey Hey Hey now hear now
Hey Hey now hear now hear now
Hey Hey now hear now
Hey Hey now hear now

Just go and know
You are an American
We cannot save the world
but we can save each other

Hey Hey now hear now
Hey Hey Hey Hey now hear now
Hey Hey now hear now hear now
Hey Hey now hear now
Hey Hey now hear now

Double Drop Water Company, Arizona

They were perfect for each other
at the Double Drop Water Company;
keeping each other company,
certain shapes matching each other,
like one could be a sister,
the other a brother ...
What was missing
was their components as lovers,
creatives in fear as art,
their promise pipers apart
when the short shadows
no longer hurting, the pain
in the piping,
the promise of war in the offing, injured
at the office,
 in longing the retail recovery
went up in smoke,
 the sugar cookie cutter
people all left town
 as they returned to mop
up the mess
